Lodi Gardens

During the 15th century before the Mughals made India their home, Delhi and part of North India was ruled by the Sayyid's and Lodi's. Babur - the first Mughal Emperor defeated Ibrahim Lodi in the first battle of Panipat and established the Mughal dynasty in India.

Now situated in Lutyen's Delhi (New Delhi) the Lodi gardens contains the tombs of  the two most prominent Sayyid and Lodi kings - Muhammad Shah Sayyid and  Sikander Lodi. Apart from the tombs, two more architecture marvels of 15th century by the Lodi kings can be seen here, they are, Sheesh Gumbad and Bara Gumbad.

The present day Lodi gardens was landscaped by Lady Willingdon wife of then Governor-General of India Marquess of Willingdon (circa 1936).
